(Guthrie Co) The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple reports of car burglaries and thefts that occurred at Diamondhead Lake on February 4th. Stolen items include wallets, cash, and debit/credit cards.
Home security footage provided by victims captured images of the suspect(s) and their vehicle. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office lifted fingerprints from one of the victims’ vehicles, believed to belong to the suspect(s).
One of the stolen credit cards was later used at Wal-Mart and Lowe’s stores in West Des Moines. Security footage from both locations showed the suspect(s) making transactions. The individuals seen in the footage matched those captured on the victims’ home security cameras and were observed entering and exiting the same suspect vehicle.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation, using license plate readers to determine that the vehicle was registered to an individual in Kansas. The registered owner informed authorities that his son and his son’s girlfriend had taken the vehicle approximately 30 days prior and had not returned it.
A Kansas driver’s license check confirmed the identities of the suspect(s), matching them to those seen in the store security footage. Authorities believe the individuals have left the area and may be continuing similar crimes elsewhere.
Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and avoid leaving valuables inside overnight. Criminal charges are pending, and the Sheriff’s Office thanks all law enforcement agencies involved for their assistance.
