At Simpson College, Atlantic alum Haley Rasmussen has scored in double figures the last 9 straight games and the Storm women’s basketball team are trying to qualify for the American Rivers Conference tournament.
On Saturday, Simpson broke a two game losing streak with an 88-83 win over Luther College. Molly Lutmer led Simpson with 37 points but Rasmussen had 19 — she was 5-10 from three point land and 4-4 from the free throw line. The 19 points matched her season high. Rasmussen is second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.9 points a game. She leads Simpson in threes with 64 on the season and is shooting an impressive 52 percent from beyond the arc. Rasmussen leads the ARC in three point percentage and three pointers made. Simpson is currently in third place in the ARC standings with an 8-5 conference record, 12-10 overall. There are three games left in the regular season and the conference tournament starts on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
At Buena Vista University, Kyle Sternberg is averaging 7.9 ppg for the Beavers who are tied for the 5th seed in the post-season tournament with 6 teams making the field.
Last Saturday, February 1, Sternberg had 13 points for BV in a 67-65 win over Luther College. Sternberg was 3-8 from three point land and led the Beavers with 9 rebounds. On Wednesday, February 5, Sternberg put in 14 points in a 83-77 win versus Central College. Sternberg was 4-11 from three point land, had 4 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.
Sternberg is currently 4th on the team in scoring, 2nd in rebounding at 6.2 per game and leads the team in blocks with 18. Buena Vista is 6-6 in conference play, currently tied with Coe and a half game ahead of Wartburg. BV has four games left in the regular season with Loras, Wartburg, Simpson and Nebraska Wesleyan.
