(Wiota) This morning, around 7:56 a.m., rescue crews responded to a car-train accident at the 690th and White Pole Road intersection just east of Wiota.
Cass County Deputy Kyle Quist says a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee was northbound on 690th and failed to stop at the railroad crossing lights. The oncoming westbound Iowa Interstate Railroad train struck the vehicle on the passenger side. The driver of the Jeep and a small child in the vehicle were taken to Cass Health by Anita Rescue.
The accident remains under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
The Agencies involved in the incident were the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Atlantic Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Anita Fire Department, Wiota Fire Department, Cass EMS, Cass County EMA, Cass County Communications, Cass County Roads Department, and Railroad Crews.
