(Atlantic) The City of Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department welcomes and appreciates donations that enhance its parks, programs, and services. On Wednesday evening, The Atlantic City Council approved a policy outlining the guidelines for accepting donations, including but not limited to trees, benches, tables, recreation equipment (in like-new condition), and monetary contributions. Atlantic City Councilman Mike McDermott is a liaison to the commission.
All donations are subject to review by the Parks and Recreation Department Head and the Parks and Recreation Commission to ensure they align with the department’s mission and objectives. Once accepted, all donations become the property of the City of Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department and are considered final. Restrictions on ownership or disposition will not be accepted unless formally approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Donations of Materials and Equipment
Donations that enhance the resources available to City parks and patrons must meet the following conditions:
- Donors must have legal ownership of the donated items.
- Items become the property of the City of Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department, which reserves the right to manage, sell, or dispose of them as deemed appropriate.
- Donors are responsible for appraising the value of donated items.
- Any items left anonymously will be treated as lost property.
- The Parks and Recreation Department and Commission hold final approval authority over all donations.
Monetary Donations
Monetary contributions intended for the City of Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department will be deposited into the City’s Parks account. The funds will be allocated as needed to support park services and operations.
Memorials
Monetary donations may be designated to purchase equipment, trees, or other materials in honor or memory of an individual, organization, or group. The Parks and Recreation Commission and the City of Atlantic must approve these donations. Any associated signage or plaques must also undergo an approval process, including renderings, dimensions, and wording submission.
Recognition
Donors may receive recognition through naming opportunities for funds, programs, facilities, or fixtures. Those wishing to remain anonymous should specify this at the time of donation. The City of Atlantic, along with the Parks and Recreation Department and Commission, will determine the appropriate method of donor recognition, which may include plaques, reports, or other acknowledgments.
