(Griswold) Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, met with farmers and Ag business leaders in Griswold Friday morning to discuss the Farm Bill and any issues that may be affecting their operations.
Zach Nunn noted that it’s important to continue to champion why the Farm Bill is so important with folks who are not from Ag states.
Nunn said sooner or later somebody else is going to show up and buy up all of the family farms throughout the country.
China is the main concern. Nunn said they were able to get into the Farm Bill that China can’t buy any Ag land in the U.S., but the bigger challenge is there are 40,000 shell companies owned by the Chinese right now.
Zach Nunn also addressed the topic of tariffs. He said the United States’ relationship with Canada and Mexico should be among the top trade priorities, but they also want to ensure that any agreement is favorable to U.S. domestic production.
Nunn referenced President Trump’s recent tariff threats that worked on Columbia. Trump’s administration had threatened to impose tariff’s on all Colombian imports in response to Colombia’s refusal to accept deportation flights of Colombian nationals from the United States. The Colombian President eventually agreed to accept the deportees.
