(Fairfield, IA) — A district court is upholding a sentence for a teen that was convicted of murdering a Fairfield teacher in 2021.
Jeremy Goodale and Willard Miller both pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the death of their Spanish teacher Nohema Graber. They were both 16-years-old when the murder happened. Goodale appealed his life sentence with the possibility of parole, with his attorney saying the court failed to consider factors like his age, immaturity and the fact that he didn’t think about the risks and consequences of his actions when he was being sentenced. However, the court noted that Goodale was a bright and intelligent teenager who could’ve stopped the murder from happening.
The court also explained that the case wasn’t a “typical” juvenile murder case.
