(Griswold, IA) — Wednesday is a traditional off night for high school sports but the Corner Conference earned an exception this week with their conference tournament so Griswold will host Bedford for 5th place tonight. The Tigers lost to East Mills 41-38 on Monday while Bedford fell to Sidney 30-28 to set up this game this evening.
Two weeks ago, the Tigers had a week to forget losing to Stanton 60-24 and then followed it up with a 50-9 loss at Riverside. Griswold Head Coach Aaron Houser says they have emphasized many things since then and the team has increased their energy and younger players are starting to play better
Sophomore Amanda Houser continues to lead the Tigers in scoring and rebounding averaging 12.1 points and 6.0 boards a game. Her Dad and Head Coach Aaron Houser says that they have gotten production off the bench from Sophomore Carsyn Adams
Houser started implementing a press this year and he says the girls are still learning this defense by committee approach
Tonight will be the 2nd of three times Griswold will play Bedford in about a month. They topped the Bulldogs 41-28 on January 10th and will play them again at the Bedford gym on February 11th. Griswold is looking to add another game and is in the finalizing a deal with an opponent to be named — the date and place has still to be worked out.
Also tonight in the Corner Conference, Essex will play Hamburg at 6:00 at Griswold for 7th and 8th place in the consolation round. The championship round will be played in Stanton with Fremont Mills against Sidney and East Mills playing Stanton in the conference semifinals.
