(Corning, IA) — The field for this week’s John J. Harris wrestling tournament will be large but the host school Southwest Valley hopes to have an impact. The Timberwolves are fairly young but Head Coach Cody Konecne has a couple of experienced guys that have led the team. Gavin Wetzel is a junior who had 26 wins a year ago and finished third at districts — he is 32-5 right now and Konecne says he has worked hard for his success
The Timberwolves have two seniors — Sawyer Wilkinson could not join the team until after winter break and is working his way into wrestling shape with a 10-7 record and no where to go but up. The other senior is Ian Forsythe who is 29-9 who Konecne says tends to wear down his opponents
Besides those veterans, Konecne says his wrestling room has plenty of young and upcoming talented kids on the mat
The John J. Harris is one of the biggest tournaments in the state and Konecne says its a matter of pride for his kids to compete on their home mats
We will have live reports on Friday night and throughout the day on Saturday from the John J. Harris tournament on both KS 95 and KSOM.
