(Anita, IA) — Its Rolling Valley versus West Central on Monday night as CAM hosts AC/GC in a girls boys doubleheader, coverage on KSOM.
On the girls side, CAM comes in with a record of 6-6 and are in the middle of the toughest part of their schedule. On Friday they lost to a 10-1 Coon Rapids Bayard team, they face a 10-1 Chargers team tonight and then play Woodbine tomorrow and Riverside this Friday. Head Coach Joe Wollum won’t shy away from a challenge — the Cougars lost to the Crusaders by 17 earlier in the season and only lost by 7 the other night. Wollum says this team has been able to reduce their turnovers
This game will be the battle of the Richters. Senior Maddie Richter leads CAM averages 16 points a game while Junior Cam Richter leads AC/GC averaging 16.6 points a game. It will also be a battle of presses — both teams like to put pressure on their opponents on defense and Wollum says the Chargers do it well
AC/GC is coming a 54-49 win over Earlham — Chargers Head Coach Brad Baudler says they had to overcome some torrid shooting by the Cardinals and had to overcome a big lead by the Cardinals to win it
CAM is slightly a better three point shooting team than AC/GC — 28 to 26 percent but Baudler knows that the Cougars can hit their threes in bunches
On the boys side, CAM is 4-7 and once again in the middle of a brutal stretch of games. They played Coon Rapids Bayard tough on Friday but lost to the one loss Crusaders 63-57. After tonight, they face Woodbine Tuesday night who is #1 in the Rolling Valley. Still playing these teams are making the Cougars a better team says Head Coach Ian Hunt, especially in transition defense
CAM is led by Chase Jahde with 18.2 ppg while the Chargers are led by Jathan South at 22 ppg. AC/GC likes to run and gun so Hunt says his transition game will have to be at its best tonight
AC/GC is 9-1 and coming off a 64-57 win over Earlham on Friday. The Chargers have been very adept at getting to the free throw line — they are 4th in Class 1A with 136 free throws made out of 201 attempts for a solid 68 percent as a team. Head Coach Lance Kading says their experience allows them to drive the lane and find a way to either make a shot or go to the line
Once concern for Kading is defending the three — the Chargers allowed 8 triples against Woodward Granger last week and 9 against Earlham. Both wins but the Cougars have launched 228 triples this year so it will be a key tonight
