(Cedar Rapids, IA) — A license for a new Cedar Rapids casino could be blocked by a new state moratorium before it ever gets approved. A bill proposing a new moratorium on Iowa casino licenses could be making its way through committees as soon as next week. The move is in response to Linn County’s application for a license for a new casino in Cedar Rapids. A two-year moratorium on casino licenses expired last year, and a new House bill banning them until 2029 failed in the state Senate last session. Support on both sides of the aisle for another moratorium seems mixed. The Racing & gaming Commission is expected to decide on the Cedar Rapids application on February 6th.
