(Atlantic) The Atlantic girls’ basketball team secured their fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday night, holding off a late Clarinda rally to win 60-49 at home.
Paytn Harter led the Trojans with a standout performance, scoring 21 points. Katrina Williams added 14 points, while Makenna Schroeder contributed 7. Zoey Kirchhoff, Lila Wiederstein, and Peyton McLaren each chipped in 6 points. For the Cardinals, Kylie Meier led the charge with 14 points, followed by Addison Wagoner and Maddie Cole with 9 apiece, Carsen Wellhausen and Jerzee Knight with 6 each, Miley Wagoner with 3, and Elle Cole with 2.
The Trojans took control early, leading 19-13 after the first quarter. They extended their dominance with a 19-6 second-quarter run, heading into halftime with a commanding 38-19 advantage. Paytn Harter was pivotal in the first half, scoring 15 points.
Clarinda made a strong push in the second half, fueled by seven three-pointers. They outscored Atlantic 12-6 in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 44-31. Kylie Meier and Maddie Cole each drained three long-range shots to bring the Cardinals within three points, 46-43, midway through the fourth quarter. However, the Trojans regrouped and closed the game on a 14-6 run to seal the 60-49 victory.
The Trojans extend their record to 9-4, and travel to Harlan on Friday night. Clarinda falls to 5-7 and takes a short road trip to Shenandoah on Friday.
