(Des Moines) Three railroad projects in Iowa are getting more than 15 million dollars in funding from the federal government. The US Department of Transportation says the money will go toward projects that reduce train-vehicle collisions and blocked railroad crossings. About two thousand crashes and 200 fatalities occur at railroad crossings every year nationwide. Polk County will get eleven million of Iowa’s funding, while Clay County and the City of Merrill will split the rest.
