(Des Moines) The 2025 Iowa Legislative session begins today. Republicans hold control of both the House and the Senate, with a majority of 67-33 in the House and 35-14 in the Senate.
Republican Tom Moore of Griswold is entering his 10th year as a state representative. As the representative for District #18, Moore serves on several committees, including Education, Health and Human Services, Economic Development, Technology, and Labor. He is also the Vice-Chair of the Health and Human Services Budget Committee. Moore points out that 44% of the state’s budget is allocated to K-12 education, while 20% goes to Health and Human Services.
Moore mentioned that the session will revisit the AEA Bill and school start dates.
He also highlighted that addressing safety issues in schools and other public safety concerns will be key priorities this session.
