(Audubon, IA) — GG Harris has turned things around with the Vikings boys basketball team. After a sluggish start, AHSTW has won 3 of their last 4 conference games and on Friday night beat Audubon on their home floor 60-40.
After a fast paced first quarter, AHSTW led 16-13 and then started to take over the game in the second. Collin Harder hit two threes, Luke Sternberg had seven points in the quarter and the Vikings outscored the Wheelers 16-7 to build a 31-20 halftime lead.
Sternberg kept getting steals in the third quarter that led to three lay-ups. Kaden Jorgensen was dominating inside against several Audubon post players and only Carson Wessel could keep the Wheelers in the game. He hit a running shot just inside the half court line at the buzzer to keep it at 11 points through three quarters, 42-31.
As it turned out, Wessel’s incredible shot was the only three pointer that Audubon made in the game. The Wheelers were 1-19 from three point land and shot just 32 percent from the field. AHSTW pulled away in the 4th quarter sparked by Camden Soukop who had 9 in the quarter and hit a three with about 2 minutes left to give the Vikings a 20 point lead.
Wessel led Audubon (4-5) with 16 points while Aaron Olsen added 7. Leading scorer Brody Schultes was frustrated all night long and held to just 2 points.
Sternberg led AHSTW (3-5) with 20, Jorgsensen had 16 points and was in double figures in rebounds, Camden Soukop had 13 and Collin Harder added 11.
