(Carroll) Kuemper Catholic, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A, showcased its dominance on Friday night with an impressive performance on its home court. The Knights cruised to an 81-29 victory over Atlantic.
The Knights’ smothering defense and efficient motion offense set the tone early, building a commanding 26-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 49-10 advantage at halftime. The home team knocked down seven three-pointers in the first half, with Jack and Brock Badding leading the charge, each hitting three triples. Kuemper added three more three-pointers in the second half, extending their lead to 66-19 by the end of the third quarter with a running clock in play.
Although Atlantic’s offense improved in the second half, the deficit proved insurmountable. Gavin McLaren led the Trojans with seven points, followed by Grant Petty with six, Sawyer Tarrell with five, Connor Johnson with four, Vincent Meisinger with three, and Gage Gross and Hudson McLaren each adding two points.
Kuemper featured a balanced attack, with four players scoring in double figures. Brock Badding led the way with 17 points, followed by Jack Badding with 14, Griffin Glynn with 12, and Ryan Clair with 10. Additional contributions came from Tregan Beiter and Dylan Schon with six each, Nash Leonard with five, Blake Lux with three, and Lual Dut, Ryan Sundrup, and Karson Kanne with two points apiece.
The win improves Kuemper’s record to 9-1 as they prepare to host East Sac County on Saturday. Atlantic, now 2-8, will look to bounce back when they host Clarinda on Tuesday, January 14.
