(Glenwood) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds recently announced new grant awards to support businesses across Iowa dedicated to expanding childcare services for their employees. The total amount awarded is $14 million, provided through the Child Care Business Incentive Grant. This initiative offers financial assistance for projects requiring new infrastructure to build childcare centers on-site or in partnership with local facilities. The Glenwood Community School District received $1,444,235. This funding will be used in collaboration with Kids Place Childcare Champions, an organization serving the Glenwood area since 1991. Superintendent Nicole Kooiker stated that the funds will be allocated to renovate a section of the Central Office building to create a holistic educational environment for children.
By partnering with Iowa Western Community College, the center will also provide valuable work-study opportunities for college students pursuing careers in child care, while ensuring consistent child care services for families.
Additionally, Nicole Kooiker mentioned that the district is opening an Agricultural program and offering students media studies with social media certificates.
