(Guthrie Center, IA) — Its been a great start to the season for AC/GC Girls Basketball with a 6-0 start and tied for first place in the West Central Conference with Des Moines Christian and the two teams play tonight. The Chargers are led by Junior Cam Richter averaging 18.3 points a game plus Senior Shay Lemke at 13.0 and Sophomore Stella Largent at 10.0. But when you dig deeper, AC/GC is winning despite committing around 20 turnovers a game. However, Head Coach Brad Baudler says their defense is creating way more
AC/GC has excelled in their passing and assists — Lemke is tied for 4th in Class 2A in assists with 49 and then you throw in Sophomore Becca Littler with 23, Junior Karli Kutzky has 11 — the Chargers have a total of 103 assists and Baudler says that unselfishness is leading to smart basketball
Lemke is the only senior on the team and most everything revolves around her but Richter has been strong on the offensive, getting most of her points in the paint despite being only 5-8. There’s only one word that can describe Richter’s ability to score and that’s toughness
Tonight, first place in the WCC is on the line as AC/GC hosts their only season meeting with Des Moines Christian. The Lions are also 4-0 in conference play and are led by Junior Addy Oetker who is averaging 15 points a game and Baudler says his defense will have to be at the top of its game to stop her
AC/GC is 6-0, 4-0; Des Moines Christian is 6-3, 4-0.
