(Elk Horn, IA) — There is an informational meeting tonight at the Exira EHK middle/high school in Elk Horn to examine what a 4 day school week would look like.
According to the school’s website, a 4 day school week would help in four areas
- Teacher retention. The district, according to the website, would be able to retain teachers more easily.
- Teacher effectiveness. It would provide teachers more time to plan lessons.
- Teacher recruitment. It would attract a wider pool of candidates for open positions.
- Student and staff morale. It could reduce absences from students and improve school culture.
Other area school districts have considered in the past going to a 4 day week – in 2023 Griswold went through the same process and after an internal survey, decided not to pursue it. There are currently 18 school districts in the state of Iowa that are on a 4 day school week.
The informational meeting for Exira EHK is at 5:15 tonight at the middle/high school and is for parents, guardians and community members in the conference room.
