(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors are considering a countywide dust control policy.
County Engineer Josh Sebern proposed that individuals that choose to have dust control in front of their residences — mostly in rural areas — would go though a new process with a permit from the county. Sebern says there has been an increase in dust control and that there have been problems coordinating with the vendors. He says he wants to bring some organization to the process
Sebern says it is fair to implement a fee in this process
The policy proposed also specifies a time period for application of dust control with the first application in mid to late May and the 2nd period in August. Sebern says 77 locations in the Guthrie County applied dust control last year and the numbers are going up. The Supervisors did not immediately approve it — Sebern says he hopes to have the policy implemented by the end of the month.
In addition, the Guthrie County supervisors approved payroll changes for personnel in the sheriff’s office and an attorney; approved to pay the final voucher for the F32 HMA resurfacing project, appointed Erica Matthews as Cass Township trustee and Brad Hayes as a new member to the zoning commission and tabled action on the 2024 annual financial report.
The supervisors also went into closed session to evaluate the professional competency of a county employee who requested the closed session.
