(Des Moines) Governor Kim Reynolds today signed an extension of the proclamation concerning weight limits and the transportation of grain, fertilizer, and manure. The proclamation is effective immediately and will remain effective until February 6, 2025.
It allows vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage, stover, manure (both dry and liquid), and fertilizer (in dry, liquid, and gas forms) to exceed the standard weight limits. Specifically, these vehicles can carry a gross weight of up to 90,000 pounds without a permit during the duration of this proclamation. This proclamation applies to loads transported on all highways in Iowa, excluding the interstate system.
To qualify, the loads must not exceed a maximum gross weight of 90,000 pounds and must not exceed the maximum axle weight limit specified under the non-primary highway maximum gross weight table in Iowa Code ยง 321.463 (6) (b) by more than 12.5 percent, must not exceed the legal maximum axle weight limit of 20,000 pounds, and must comply with posted weight limits on roads and bridges.
