(Harlan, IA) — It has been a good start for the Harlan Boys Wrestling season and Head Coach Adam Bendorff is looking for even bigger things this month. The biggest highlight for the Cyclones has been an undefeated start for Jesse Jens — the senior is 15-0 at 126 pounds which has included winning the Dan Hill Invite, the Riverside Tourney, and the Glenwood Invite which included 2nd period pin against Lay Wah of Omaha Benson who is ranked #1 in Nebraska. Bendorff says staying at his 126 pound weight class has been key for Jens
Senior Spencer Fink is 13-2 at 120 pounds, Senior Brody McKinley is 11-5 at 157, Sophomore Nathan Sandquist is 9-3 at 106. One of the biggest wins of December for Harlan was 215 pounder Nick Gubbels beating Landon Fuller of Shenandoah 8-4 to clinch a close dual match win. Bendorff says it was big after the Cyclones lost last year to the Mustangs and it does much for Gubbels confidence
Bendorff is also excited to have his son Brody come back from injury and contribute to the line up right away
Now there are four weeks of wrestling before districts — four weeks of duals and tournaments that culminate with the Hawkeye Ten Conference tournament on February 1. Bendorff says they are going to double their efforts
Harlan will have their only home wrestling meet this Thursday, hosting a triangular with Atlantic and Denison Schleswig, coverage on KS 95.
