(Audubon, IA) — The Audubon boys basketball team has had a solid 3-3 start to their season. Playing a tough schedule, the Wheelers are led by an unlikely source off the bench — Junior Brody Schultes.
Last Friday night, Schultes would hit a key three pointer with about a minute and a half left to put away a feisty Riverside team 52-43. The three pointer turned a 6 point lead into a 9 point lead — earlier in the 4th quarter Schultes hit a couple of key lay-ups in transition. Riverside would storm back and cut the lead as low as 4 but Schultes then hit his three. These days in high school basketball, its not unusual for team’s leading scorers to hit big shots at the end of games but it is strange when they come off the bench. That’s what Schultes does for the Wheelers and he says it works for him
Audubon did push Tri Center to overtime before losing 81-77 — Schultes lead the Wheelers 17 points. He averages about 12 a game and he says you actually learn more from losses than wins
Wheelers Head Coach Darran Miller says that Schultes helps the team in so many ways
Audubon’s win on Friday against Riverside moves them into third place in the Western Iowa Conference and if they want to contend in the conference the rest of this season, Schultes says the keys are simple
Tonight Audubon visits Red Oak in a non conference game, they visit Logan Magnolia tomorrow and host AHSTW on Friday.
