(Des Moines) A former Iowa Army National Guardsman is facing charges overseas. According to the Des Moines Register, Ryan O’Leary is the subject of a criminal investigation launched by Russia’s Investigative Committee for his involvement in Ukraine’s military operation in the Kursk Region. He’s being accused of terrorism, being a mercenary, and supplying Ukrainian forces with automatic weapons. O’Leary left the Iowa Guard as a corporal in 2015 and spent most of 2023 fighting south of the city of Avdivik in the Donetsk region. He’s being investigated in absentia while the committee is determining his current location.
