(Audubon, IA) — Two teams in the middle of the pack of the Western Iowa Conference will try to start 2025 on the winning track as Riverside and Audubon collide in a boys basketball showdown, coverage tonight on KSOM.
Riverside is led by Sophomore sharpshooter Peyton Amdor who is averaging 17.4 ppg and is shooting over 42 percent from three point land. Bulldogs Head Coach Nick Kroon says he has changed the way he’s played this year because his size is needed inside
Kroon says during the winter break he had two priorities — keeping things in motion with their zone offense and their full court defense which is going to be a priority tonight trying to create turnovers
For Audubon, there is no one dominant scorer — Junior Brody Schultes leads with 10.8 points a game, Senior Aaron Olsen is at 8.2 and Junior Carson Wessell comes in at 7.8. The Wheelers are coming off their best game of the season — a 81-77 overtime loss to undefeated Tri Center, the closest anybody has come yet to knocking off the Trojans. Audubon might have won the game if they hit their free throws — they only hit 9 of 21 from the line and are only 42 percent for the season. Naturally, that was an emphasis for Head Coach Darran Miller over the break
Tonight Audubon will have to do more than just hit free throws, they will need to take care of the ball, averaging 17 turnovers a game
Riverside is 3-2, Audubon is 2-3, game time tonight about 7:30 pm, coverage on KSOM.
