(Pomeroy) The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has filed criminal charges against Nicholas L. Benedict in connection with the December 31 shooting in Pomeroy.
Benedict was booked into the Carroll County Jail on charges of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, Reckless Use of a Firearm Resulting in Serious Injury, Going Armed with Intent, Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, and Obstruction of Prosecution. He was held on $29,000 cash bond.
Preliminary reports indicated that an altercation inside an apartment escalated into an exchange of gun fire involving multiple individuals.
Two people remain hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Both are expected to survive their injuries. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
