(Corning, IA) — Records sometimes do not tell the whole story and for the Southwest Valley girls team, they are hoping the new year will allow them to turn some close losses into close wins. The Timberwolves are 1-6 overall but three of those losses have been by a combined 9 points. Another loss to Central Decatur, the entire team was sick and shot only 24 percent. Head Coach Mike Cormack just needs his team to play an entire game
Cormack saw some progress in the last week before the winter break — a 43-40 loss to Bedford, a 64-48 loss to Mount Ayr but that’s the most points scored against #5 ranked Raiders all season and a 41-38 defeat to SE Warren
Southwest Valley has one of the best players in the Pride of Iowa Conference — Junior Hailey Randall leads the team averaging 17.3 points a game, this despite shooting 4-27 from three point land although Cormack says she’s working on that part of her game
The Timberwolves have to face a tough Martensdale St. Mary’s team first in 2025 followed by Nodaway Valley, and a non conference game against CAM.
One advantage for Southwest Valley is 7 of their next 9 games will be at home — there was construction at the high school so the few home games the Timberwolves played in the first part of the season were at the middle school.
