Gerald “Skip” Scofield, age 82, of Oakland, Iowa
Gerald “Skip” Scofield, son of Ervin W. and Cara Mae (Gregg) Scofield, was born on August 8, 1942, in Sioux City, Iowa. He passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 19 days.
Skip was raised in Sioux City, he enlisted in the Army on February 20, 1960, and Honorably Discharged on May 11, 1961. He continued living in Sioux City until he purchased the bowling alley in Oakland in 1973. Skip worked as a heavy equipment operator for 40 years working for Fahrenkrog Construction and Ward Luke Construction. He was known as the best terrace builder of all time. On November 2, 1990, Skip and Joan Braden were married in Oakland where they raised their family.
Skip was a lifetime member of the Oakland Country Club. He enjoyed golf, bowling, painting, softball and carpentry. Even in his 80’s he could out-golf and out-bowl most around town. He was very talented in everything he did.
Skip is preceded in death by his wife, Joan in November of 2023, his parents, his sister Sharon Richards and his son Mark Scofield.
Skip is survived by his son Jami Scofield and wife Tina of Kansas City, MO; his daughter Tami Jo Scofield of Las Cruces, NM; his sons Todd Hebing and wife Claudia and Trent Hebing and wife Sheila, both of Branson, MO; his daughter Tasha Danker and husband Kelly of Hancock, IA; his brother Ronnie Scofield and sister Donna Doyle, both of Sioux City, IA; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Skip loved life to the fullest. He was the life of the party and was known as “the jukebox joker”. He loved his beer, having fun and making everyone around him laugh. He cherished his time with his family and friends. He was loved and adored by all who met him.
There will be a Private Family burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. The Celebration of His Life will be held at the Oakland Community Building on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. The Rieken Vieth Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
