(Des Moines) Iowa 2024 was a notable year of weather extremes as described by Donna Dubberke of the National Weather Service. The year was marked by numerous thunderstorms that helped to ease drought conditions but also set a record with 125 tornadoes, surpassing the previous record of 120.
Dubberke says what sticks out to her is the bitterly cold temperatures in January of 2024.
Dubberke says January of 2025 looks to be starting out with much colder temperatures with highs in the teen later in the week, and a couple of chances of measurable snowfall.
