(Shelby Co) One person was arrested following a pursuit in Shelby County on December 24th.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says at approximately 7:50 p.m., Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2012 Chevy Camaro. The Deputies had checked the registration and found the vehicle was reported stolen. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit began near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and 19th Street in Harlan.
The stolen Camaro turned onto 19th Street and continued to Cyclone Avenue where it turned west before going north on Highway 59. The vehicle continued to Street F-32 where it turned and went west until Hickory Road where it turned south, going to 1400th Street, turning west. The Camaro then went south on Hazel Road. One Deputy continued following the stolen Camaro while two others paralleled the pursuit attempting to get into a position to place stop sticks.
The Camaro then turned east onto 1200th Street and continued until Linden Road where it failed to negotiate the T intersection and entered the field. A Deputy continued pursuing the stolen Camaro until it reached Road M-36 and turned back to the City of Harlan, entering the northeast part of town. The Camaro went south on 5th Street to Cyclone Avenue where it turned east to 4th Street going north. The Camaro then turned west on Broadway street, continuing to 12th street traveling south.
A Deputy Sheriff had placed stop sticks near the intersection of 12th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Before the vehicle made it to the stop sticks, it collided with a 2015 Chevy Silverado in the intersection of 12th Street and Pine Street.
The stolen Camaro came to rest on 12th Street where the driver, 47-year-old Alan Spencer, was taken into custody.
The Chevy Silverado was occupied by Dale and Mary Swanson of Harlan. Both were transported to Myrtue Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
