(Indianola) Haley Rasmussen, Atlantic’s all-time scoring leader, continues to shine in her senior season at Simpson College. The two-time All-American Conference standout averages 16.6 points per game and shoots an impressive 50.5 percent from the field and 57.7 percent from beyond the arc.
A three-time letter-winner, Rasmussen is the only player who started every game last season and has maintained that streak this season. She has also served as team captain for three consecutive years.
Simpson heads into the post-holiday stretch with a 6-6 overall record and a 2-1 mark in American Rivers Conference play. Rasmussen notes that while the team lost key players from last season, the offseason efforts are paying off as younger teammates step up.
Rasmussen is excited to resume play and is eager to face conference rivals in the coming weeks.
This season, Rasmussen averages nearly 17 points per game, a significant leap from her 13.2 points as a sophomore and 12.9 points last year. Despite drawing heavy defensive attention, she emphasizes that this creates more scoring opportunities for her teammates.
Simpson kicks off their post-holiday schedule against Wartburg on January 4.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Rasmussen is majoring in education and will begin her student-teaching experience this semester, preparing to teach elementary education next school year.
