(Atlanta) Whooping cough cases in the U.S. are at the highest level seen in a decade. Cases have been skyrocketing for months with the CDC warning there’s no sign of a slowdown. The federal health agency says more than 32-thousand cases have been reported this year through mid-December, six times more than last year at this time. Pennsylvania is reporting the most cases. The disease, also known as pertussis, is highly contagious and often starts out with cold-like symptoms followed by a full body cough that can last for months. Children under the age of one-year-old are most at risk with the CDC advising that D-tap vaccine offers the best protection.
