(Des Moines, IA) — A central Iowa couple has 16-thousand dollars back in their bank account after falling victim to a scam.
Attorney General Brenna Bird’s office says they were able to get the money that the couple had sent to the scammers through the mail. Bird explained the victim was told he was the winner of a Publisher’s Clearing House prize that included millions of dollars up front, plus weekly payments of five-thousand dollars. The victim had to pay more than 16-thousand up front for alleged fees and taxes.
The attorney general’s office was able to intercept the cashier’s check the man was sending through the mail and return it.
