(Greenfield, IA) — Wins are usually easy to come by for the Nodaway Valley girls basketball team but this year has been an exception. After losing a ton to graduation, Head Coach Brian Eisbach has had to do a little rebuilding. He still has his daughter Izzy Eisbach who is still finding a way to score but while the Junior is averaging 27.3 points a game, the rest of the team is averaging 20.8 a game combined. However, there has been some progress. After 5 straight losses to start the season, the Wolverines have won two in a row and Brian Eisbach says he is starting to see signs of offensive life from some players other than Izzy
Izzy Eisbach has attempted 182 shots on the year and made 61 of them for 33 percent. The rest of the team has attempted 209 shots and made just 55 for just 26 percent. Eisbach is only 18 percent from three point land and is the overwhelming leader in assists with 21. Brian Eisbach says opponents are throwing a lot of different defenses at her
The other starters are Taylor Day, Maddie Weston, Liv Laughery, and Mylee Comstock. Brian Eisbach says the key for them to improve their offense is to move without the ball
There is still a lot of season left and the Wolverines are 2-3 in conference play — they do have losses to Mount Ayr and Martensdale St. Mary’s are 1 and 2 in the Pride of Iowa so if Nodaway Valley can improve over the winter break, there is a possibility that they can make some noise in the conference
Nodaway Valley will visit Central Decatur on Friday, January 3 in their first game after the winter break.
