(Story City) Atlantic High School claimed one individual title and finished third overall at the Jim Kinyon Wrestling Tournament, held Saturday at Roland-Story High School. Sergeant Bluff-Luton won the tournament with 230 points, edging out Winterset, which finished second with 226 points. Atlantic secured third place with a total of 173 points.
The Trojans were led by 138-pound champion Aiden Smith, who had an impressive run to the title. Smith recorded two falls, a tech fall, and a 5-3 decision victory over Logan McDonald of Grinnell in the championship match. The Northwestern College at Orange City commit earned his 150th career win last weekend at the Council Bluffs Classic.
Keaton Schroeder (106) and Collin Harris (113) both earned second-place finishes. Schroeder started with a first-round bye, followed by a fall in the quarterfinals and a major decision in the semifinals, but he lost 9-4 to Kline Kiburz of Winterset in the final. Harris, on the other hand, dominated his early matches with three falls, but lost a tight 2-0 decision to Hunter Campion of Anamosa in the championship bout.
Other medalists for Atlantic included Jayden Harter (150) and Donovan Hedrington (190), both of whom finished third; Braxton Hass (126), who took fourth; Kalvin Hayes (144), who placed fifth; and Mason Betts (120), Carter Hadley (130), and Travin Thomas (215), who all earned eighth-place finishes.
