(Council Bluffs) Lewis Central used a dominant second-quarter run to secure a 72-46 victory over Atlantic in Hawkeye Ten Conference boys’ basketball action Friday at Lewis Central.
Offense was scarce in the first quarter as both teams struggled to find their rhythm. Atlantic took an early 5-0 lead, but Lewis Central answered with five straight points, leaving the score tied at 5-5 after one quarter. The Titans found their groove in the second quarter, outscoring the Trojans 19-8 to take a 24-14 lead into halftime. Ramon Ware sparked the Titans’ offense in the quarter, pouring in 11 points.
Atlantic managed to cut the deficit to single digits a few times in the third quarter, but Lewis Central’s perimeter shooting proved too much. Ware, Charles Schaben, Evan Lille, and Aiden Johnson each hit from beyond the arc, helping the Titans extend their lead to 46-29 by the end of the third. Lewis Central added another 17 points in the final quarter while holding the Trojans to the same total, sealing the win.
Gavin McLaren led Atlantic with 15 points, while Grant Petty contributed nine, including a three-pointer. Kinnick Juhl also connected from long range for the Trojans.
Ramon Ware paced the Titans with 15 points, while Parker Stessman and Tye Paulsen added eight apiece. Five different Titans hit three-pointers, with Ware sinking two and Jimmy Scott, Evan Lillie, Aiden Johnson, and Charles Schaben each adding one.
With the win, Lewis Central improved to 4-1 and is set to face Bellevue East at the Mac Center today. Atlantic dropped to 1-4 and will host Shenandoah on January 3.
