(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors received an update from ISU Extension on the Speak Up Be Safe program and on a new program for youth ages 10-15.
Lucy Hough, Prevention Coordinator, and Kerry Aistrope, Regional Director at Iowa State University Extension, appeared before the Supervisors on Tuesday.
Hough said the new program they are looking into is an online exploitation module that will launch next year for ages 10 to 15.
Aistrope explained that the new program is in conjunction with META.
Aistrope said teaching these kids the knowledge and skills to empower them to recognize they might be a target of someone who is grooming them is a gift and asked the Supervisors to consider some funding for these programs.
The Supervisors did not take action on funding at Tuesday’s meeting, but they did approve a Letter of Support.
