(Churdan, IA) — Its the final game before the winter break and its an afternoon basketball doubleheader as CAM visits Paton Churdan, coverage on KSOM.
The Girls will tip off at 1 pm — schools have started to do this periodically to encourage attendance of games by their students — kids at all the schools will be allowed into the gym to watch the games. For the CAM girls, they broke a three game losing streak by beating Boyer Valley 51-49 on Tuesday. Head Coach Joe Wollum says they got off to a good start and were able to keep it this time unlike some of their other games
Maddie Richter is leading the Cougars averaging 16.2 points a game. She is shooting a solid 32 percent from three point range. Wollum would like to see her crash the boards more but there is no denying her ability to shoot
CAM will face a Paton Churdan team that relies pretty much on one player — Sophomore Kaliyah Minnihan averages 16.8 ppg and 9 rebounds a game and the Rockets are still looking for their first win of the season.
On the boys side, the Cougars lost their first three games all to good teams — Earlham, Woodbine and Coon Rapids Bayard who have a combined one loss — but have rebounded to win their last two against West Harrison and Boyer Valley. CAM is led by 6-3 Senior Chase Jahde who is an offensive threat all over. He can shoot the three, he can drive, he can post up, Head Coach Ian Hunt says it isn’t just one thing
Collin Bower is next behind Jahde averaging 12.4 ppg and is the leader on the glass with 10.4 rebounds a game. Hunt says he has pulled Bower a little away from the basket and it has allowed Coby Venteicher some room to operate because of his shot blocking abilities
For Paton Churdan, they are averaging about the same number of points as CAM but they are only shooting 15 percent on their three pointers. Sophomore Trevon Keely leads the Rockets averaging 16.3 ppg and 8.7 rbg but like the girls, do not have anybody else in double figures.
