(Des Moines) A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for almost the entire state of Iowa from 4:00 p.m. today to 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The National Weather Service forecasts freezing rain that will accumulate ice across the area this afternoon into Saturday. Travel will become hazardous tonight into Saturday morning with icy roadways. Branches and power lines may become ice-coated. Winds 10-20 miles per hour could cause icy tree limbs to break or power outages to occur. If you are going outside, watch out for icy steps, sidewalks, and driveways that could cause you to fall and be injured.
The National Weather Service released more information on the storm’s timing this morning. The freezing rain is expected to be in southwest Iowa around 4:00 p.m. before moving east.
