(Harlan, IA) — Its a little Fink and funk for the Harlan Boys Wrestling team this season. Seniors Spencer Fink and Jesse Jens both won their weight class on Saturday in their opening action of the season. Fink went 3-0 with 2 falls while Jens — who features a tough and unique funky style on the mat — went 4-0 with 3 falls and a major decision. Both went to state a year ago but did not get on the medal stand — Cyclones Head Coach Adam Bendorff expects that to change this year
Senior Brody McKinley is another who went to state last year and also did not medal — he ran into tough competition on Saturday and finished in 5th place with a 2-2 mark. Bendorff expects him to rebound quickly. Senior Heavyweight Adam Spray has a lot of experience although Bendorff says he is lighter than other heavyweights. The Cyclones do have a couple of freshmen — Coy Obrecht and Jamison Clark that will develop over the season. And Bendorff is excited to have Senior Reese Koch (Coke) back in the line up
Overall, Bendorff likes the group of kids he has — normally he might have a few kids that come out for the sport but then quit because they don’t want to work. That is not the case this year
Harlan will visit St. Albert for a Quad tonight with Glenwood and Southwest Iowa — they head to Riverside for a tournament this Saturday.
