(Greenfield, IA) — It doesn’t get any better than walking away from the Well with a state championship and that’s what happened last year for Nodaway Valley’s Ashton Honnold. He is back this year to defend and he has given hope to the other Wolverines to accomplish their dreams of getting on top of the podium. Head Coach Brad Honnold believes Ashton can ignore the target on his back and any kind of pressure to do it all again
Trent Warner did not win last year losing in the semifinals by a narrow 3-2 score but won the consolation finals for a bronze medal at heavyweight. Honnold says Warner is back and hungrier than ever partially because he believes in himself
Also back is Juniors Ty Strode and Keyin Steeve, both state qualifiers a year ago. Honnold says Strode is one to watch this year and Steeve has been to state 2 years in a row and will be motivated to get a W on the mat. Seniors Eli Harris, Kasen Hansen and Charles Rudolf have something to prove this year. The Wolverines started their season on Tuesday with dual wins over Coon Rapids Bayard and Panorama and Honnold says this team has the support of a community hungry for something positive
Tonight Nodaway Valley heads to Guthrie Center for a quadrangular with AC/GC, East Union and West Central Valley.
