(Alleman) Two players scored in double-figures, leading North Polk to a 50-22 win over Atlantic in a boys’ basketball game on Tuesday at North Polk High School.
Jason Slings and Eli Pederson each scored 15 points to lead all scorers for the Comets. Slings knocked down four threes, all in the first half, and Pederson splashed down two more from the long range. Jake Hout, Cael Petersen, and Drew Owen each scored five points, Brady Cathcart finished with two, and Benjamin Glasgow ended the night with one.
Hunter Nelson and Grant Petty led the Trojans with five points each, Reed Flaisek and Conner Johnson scored four each, and Shelton Maulia and Gage Gross finished the night with two points apiece.
North Polk built a 26-6 lead at the break, led by Slings’ 15 first-half points. The Trojans produced more offense in the third quarter, outscoring the Comets 11-10. Atlantic Head Coach Dalton Franken says the Trojans played more aggressively in the second half.
The Comets bounced back in the fourth quarter, outscoring the visitors 14-5.
Coach Franken mentioned a couple of positives: good defense and the positive impact of his players coming off the bench.
The Trojans host Glenwood on Friday night. North Polk is at ADM.
