(Oakland) Golden Hills RC&D hosted a webinar about grade stabilization practices on Tuesday. Guest speakers included John Thomas from the Hungry Canyons Alliance (HCA) and Terry Gleaves from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). This was a virtual program about structural measures that landowners can do to stop gully erosion with cost share from the NRCS.
John Thomas presented on the geology of western Iowa, why gully erosion is so prevalent here, discussed different types of gullies through photos, and the most cost-effective ways to control gully erosion. Terry Gleaves shared opportunities for cost share through the NRCS, local soil and water conservation districts, and IDALS. John and Terry answered some questions from attendees to conclude the event.
This webinar is part of a Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) grant between Golden Hills RC&D, the NRCS, and the HCA. The grant is providing landowners in the West Nishnabotna Watershed technical assistance and cost share to implement conservation practices.
