(Pottawattamie Co) Bethany Wilcoxon, Senior Advisor for McClure and Associates, updated the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on the work being done in Minden. Minden was hit by an EF3 Tornado on April 26th.
Wilcoxon said from the downtown perspective, they are working with the Iowa Economic Development Authority on their Emergency Community Catalyst Building Remediation Grant. $500,000 is set aside for Minden.
Minden was selected as one of four communities for the Iowa Rural Development Council’s Rural Business Initiative, supported by funding from the Wells Fargo Foundation.
Wilcoxon said last week they worked alongside MAPA to submit a Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery grant application.
Wilcoxon said they are also working in earnest on a community recreation hub.
Those are just a few highlights. Wilcoxon said they they continue to explore other public and private funding opportunities and ways to support the people who are building back in Minden.
Wilcoxon did note that there is a temporary development moratorium in place through March as they think about what they want downtown to look like in the future.
