(Atlantic) The Atlantic boy’s basketball team opens the season tonight at North Polk. The Trojans returned two starters from last years 7-16 season. Gavin McLaren averaged 12.78 points one year ago and 6.7 rebounds per game. Hudson McLaren is back after averaging nearly two points per game during his sophomore year. North Polk returns no starters from last year’s 11-13 season.
Atlantic Head Coach Dalton Franken says the Comets are 100 percent bought in on the defensive end of the floor.
Franken says that kind of pressure will also open up many other things. However, the key is handling the pressure defense.
The Trojans should have a size advantage at one or two positions. Shelton Maulia, is 6’4, Reid Woodward, 6’3, Gavin McLaren, 6’2, Grant Petty, 6’1, and Hudson McLaren, 6’0.
Despite the lack of returning starters, the Comets have three players who played in almost every game one year ago. Jake Hout averaged 3.04 points off the bench, Drew Owen 3.08, and Rocky Bartleman 1.61 points per outing. Other role players last season included Benjamin Glasgow, Nathan Feldman, and Jack Spieker.
We will have the game on 95.7 F.M. and live video-streamed on westerniowatoday.com (KS95). The Pre-game show starts at 7:15, and the tip-off is at 7:30. Tom Robinson and Roger Warne will have the call of the game.
