(Avoca, IA) — After three straight 20 win seasons, the AHSTW Boys Basketball team found themselves in an unusual situation last year — the Vikings only won five games, their first single win season since 2010-11.
This season AHSTW do have four starters returning although a couple are recovering from football injuries but Head Coach GG Harris says he has a bunch of players that are ready to work
Junior Point Guard Collin Harder (10.9 ppg) is hurt to start the season and Harris hopes he will be back after the winter break. That will put pressure on Senior Luke Sternberg (5.6 ppg, 4.9 rbg, 3.5 spg) but Harris says he is a catalyst on both offense and defense
Senior Camden Soukop (8.5 ppg, 39% on threes) will give the Vikings a 1-2 scoring punch. Junior Kaden Jorgensen (3.3 ppg, 6.1 rbg) will provide experience. Juniors Drew Lee, Chase Wheatley and Ty Nelson will need to step up their game this year. Half of the team will be freshmen with Dayton Osbahr a player that Harris expects to contribute. Overall, Harris says the strength of the team lies on the defensive side
AHSTW opens their season this Friday hosting Underwood.
