(Iowa City, IA) — Iowa Junior Kaleb Johnson has declared himself eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft. Johnson made his announcement on Sunday evening via Instagram writing that his “heart is filled with gratitude and appreciation for the incredible journey I’ve experienced as a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa will always be home and I will forever will be a Hawkeye.”
Johnson did not say whether he would play in the Hawkeyes upcoming bowl game. If he doesn’t take another snap with Iowa, he will finish with 2,779 rushing yards which ranks 6th all time in Hawkeye history, averaging 5.5 yards a carry and 30 rushing TD, which is 4th all time in Iowa history. He also 29 total receptions for 240 yards and 2 scores. For the season, Johnson has run for 1,537 yards and 21 TD.
Last week, Johnson was named a finalist for the Doak Walker award given annually to college football’s top running back. The other finalists are Boise St’s Ashton Jeanty and North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton. ESPN Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. ranks Johnson currently as the #3 draft eligible running back behind Jeanty and Hampton.
