Arnold “Arnie” Bintner, age 95, of Exira, IA, died at Exira Nursing Home on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in Exira, IA. He was born the son of Joseph & Thressa (Thielen) Bintner on November 21, 1929, at his parents’ home north of Anita, IA, in Cass County. Arnie was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anita and confirmed at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira. He attended rural schools in Audubon County, graduating from Exira High School in 1948.
On June 21, 1951, Arnie married Lorraine Nelson at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Six children were born into this union: Tim, Tamara, Vicki, Tom, Mitch, and Marty. He worked at Milliaman Feed Store and on farms in the area. On June 7, 1952, Arnie was inducted into the military. He took his basic training at Fort Riley, KS. After his training, he was shipped to Korea on June 13, 1952, where he served 16 months in active duty. He served Battery C of the 3 Divisions, infantry. He served across the 38th parallel in the Iron Triangle. He was honorably discharged in September of 1953 as Staff Sgt. Bintner.
After returning from his military service, they started farming different areas until they could purchase a farm east of Exira. There, they lived until he retired and moved to their present home in 1995. He was a Holy Trinity Catholic Church member in Exira, the Brayton American Legion Post 350, the Dale Christensen Post 4119 VFW, Disabled Veterans, and a longtime member of the Audubon County Travelers. He and Lorraine enjoyed traveling across the USA, Germany, and many surrounding countries. For 35 years, He worked for the ASC in Audubon and drove a school bus for Exira for over 32 years.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lorraine, an infant daughter Tamara, his brothers Nick and Willie, his sisters Romona Johnson and Agnes Riesgaard, and his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Bintner.
He is survived by his son, Tim Bintner, of Castle Rock, CO; Tom (Paula) Bintner of Ankeny, IA; Mitch (Becky) Bintner of Castle Rock, CO; Marty (Lila) Bintner of Stuart, IA; and a daughter, Vicki (Jamie) Brehmer of Lyons, NE; nineteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial at 1 pm, Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira, with Fr. David Nkrumah officiating. Burial will follow at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Exira with Military honor given. Coffee and cake afterwards at the Catholic Hall in Exira. Visitation with the family present will be held at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Exira on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 4 pm to 6 pm.
