(Ft. Myers, FL) — Well, the Cyclones women got a trip to Florida but South Carolina spoiled the party beating up on the Iowa St. Women’s basketball team 76-36. Head Coach Bill Fennelly had said that the game against the defending national champions was not planned originally but when a team dropped out of the tournament, SC was the replacement.
The Cyclones were held to just 3 points in the first quarter and the Gamecocks led 19-3 after one, 35-9 at the half, and 53-27 at the end of three quarters. Iowa St. just could not get the peach in the peach basket — ISU shot 12-52 from the field for 23.2% and only 4-23 on their three point shots. Audi Crooks led Iowa St. with 13 points and 9 rebounds, Kenzie Hare had 12 and Emily Ryan put in 9. The rest of the team had just 2 points combined. Addy Brown averages 16.2 ppg but was 0-7 shooting and did not score a point.
South Carolina was led by Joyce Edwards and Sania Feagin each with 13 points and the Gamecocks improved to 6-1. Iowa St. falls to 5-2 and will play the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (5-1) on Saturday at 12:30.
