Verna Schuler, 92, of Atlantic, Iowa, formerly of Griswold, died Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Heritage House in Atlantic.
Verna was born December 20, 1931 in Montgomery County Iowa to the late George D. and Iva M. (Cozad) Bishop. She was united in marriage to Dorland Schuler on October 9, 1955. They farmed in Cass County Iowa until 1964. Then, together with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as their CEO, they started Schuler Manufacturing. They ran the business for many years and then their sons, a nephew and a few grandsons took over as they both slowed down, but they remained active in the business until 2019 when Vermeer acquired Schuler Manufacturing. They moved to Atlantic in 2021.
They and their family enjoyed fishing in Canada throughout the years. Even after they stopped going, some of the family returned there to enjoy the fun and the beauty. Verna was also an avid, outspoken Iowa Hawkeye fan…especially around Cyclone & Husker fans.
Verna deeply loved her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ and openly and easily shared her faith with others. She and Dorland generously shared the resources they were blessed with to bless others around the world. Verna enjoyed life to the fullest with family and friends. She loved to laugh and have fun. Because of her positive, youthful spirit & readily-given encouragement, she was a magnet to young and old alike and a real joy to be around. Within a year of moving to the Heritage House, she was nominated for & won the “Transforming Aging Award”. The award is given to “a person who strives to live a life of purpose & meaning, regardless of circumstances, proving that the second half of life can be the best half. He/she actively demonstrates that aging is NOT an obstacle, but an opportunity”.
Survivors include her children, Reggie (Jeanie) of Griswold, Rhonda (Steve) Hayward of Joplin, MO, Rod’s wife, Michelle of Atlantic, and Roger (Janelle) of Canton, OH; 10 grandchildren, Traci (Chris) Thomason of Des Moines, Mark (Kelsey) Schuler of Griswold, Jason Hayward of Dallas, TX, Carissa (Aaron) Othic currently living in Asia, Jordan (Chelsi) Schuler of Atlantic, Brandon (Shannon) Schuler of Tiffin, IA, Kristen (Nathan) Manfull of Winona, MN, Evan (Mikayla) Schuler of Altoona, IA, Mackenzie (Chris) Dukles of Olmsted, OH and Madison (Marcus) Samblanet of Canton, OH; and 16 great-grandchildren.
