(Atlantic) An area family continues to build on a Thanksgiving Day tradition by providing free meals for the public.
Misty and Kristen Holaday of the Holaday Baking Company are gearing up for the third annual event at the Cass County Community Center in Atlantic. Kristen says the idea started after their grandmother’s passing.
The following year, the family began serving meals at the Cass County Community Center and delivering them to people in the Atlantic community. In the first year, they served over 400 meals; last year, they served over 500; this year, they plan to serve over 600 people.
Holiday says they plan to expand their deliveries to drop-off locations in Wiota, Anita, Cumberland, Massena, Lewis, Griswold, Marne, Walnut, Elk Horn, and Exira this year. For people interested in getting the free Thanksgiving meal delivered or taken out or wishing to volunteer or pre-order, call 712-250-1599 or text Anna at this same number.
The meal consists of Turkey, ham, all the fixings, and pie. For more information, visit @holadaybaking company’s Facebook page. The event will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Cass County Community Center.
Holaday said this meal is made possible by generous donations from businesses and the community. She said money and food donations are still accepted, and pies are especially needed.
